When I was a junior at RIT (three years ago.... don't tell anyone!), I created a RIT student bucket list and made a goal to do at least 75 of these things. I promptly forgot about it.
However, it is now my last semester at RIT. I've decided that I should revisit the bucket list and see where I am. I thought it would also be fun to add some anecdotes to it, some memories and funny stories.
Thus.
I present to you: A Hundred Things Every RIT Student Should Do Before Graduation.
Or, actually, "The RIT Bucket List."
- Use this pick-up line on a member of the opposite gender: “I wish you were a derivative so I could lie tangent to your curves.” I have used this on Joe....
- Get a picture taken with RITchie.
- Attend a RIT Men’s Hockey opener over Brick City weekend. Every. Single. Year. I now have six shirts.
- Take Wines of the World.
- Live in a dorm, minimum one year.
- Eat at Gracie’s.
- Sit with the Corner Crew during a hockey game. Brick City games, the national championship games, and the Frozen Four.
- Learn sign language.
- Play Humans vs. Zombies
- Play quidditch.
- Have a snow fight.
- Slip and fall in the snow. I once slipped and fell so hard I had a bruise on my knee for weeks. Another time, I wiped out in the snow in front of a group of my friends, and because I was dumb and decided to run downhill in the snow, they saw the whole thing.
- Ice skate at the Ritter.
- Go to class in a blizzard so heavy you can barely see two feet in front of you.
- Make brownies in a mug.
- Go watch the Vagina Monologues. I also took part!
- Watch people dressed up in costumes for Tora-Con.
- Dress up as Ritchie.
- Hug the "Free Hugs" guy. I seriously considered doing this, but after I saw him grope someone mid-hug I decided it would be better to casually walk away.
- Wait in line at Java Wally for a coffee. Not a coffee, but a chocolate situation! Amazing!!
- Play one of Destler's banjoes. Unfortunately I don't think this one is going to happen. :(
- See a NTID play.
- Attend a RIT LAN party.
- Go to all of the Senior Week events. Check, check, check, and check!
- Eat a real garbage plate from Nick Tahou's.
- Pull an all-nighter in the library or an academic building.
- Go to at least one Week of Welcome event.
- Go to the SG Superbowl party. Except now they don't call it the Superbowl party. It's the Bowl That is Super or the Superb'Owl.
- Get free popcorn from the SG office.
- Go on a co-op (or get an internship)
- Sleep in the Idea Factory Back when it was the Idea Factory and full of squashy couches.
- Attend a party in an off-campus apartment. I've hosted quite a few too!
- Ride the tiger statue.
- Read an issue of the Reporter.
- Read all the Distorters published during your years as a RIT student.
- Take a trip to Toronto and drink legally. Did this during spring break of my second year of RIT.
- Score a free T-shirt. I have an entire Rubbermaid bin full of free shirts from RIT.
- Spend hours fighting with Nerf swords in Wal-Mart at 2am
- Attend Brick Bash. I actually went twice - my freshman year and my second year when I was required to go as an RA.
- Take a class in each of RIT's colleges.
- Go to Imagine RIT. Going strong with this one!
- Eat at all the places on campus, including Henry's.
- Go to the Lilac Festival.
- Go to Letchworth Park and host a picnic.
- Visit Park Avenue.
- Applaud when someone breaks a plate in Gracie's.
- Visit the Strong Museum.
- Visit the Mt. Hope cemetery. Pro tip: best to go in the rain! So much creepier and more fun!
- Go sledding on the hill in front of the Field House on a stolen lunch tray.
- Text or call RIT Rings at least once. They never published any of my texts. :(
- High-five a Public Safety officer on a Segway. Back when they had Segways.
- Go to a St. Patrick's block party in downtown Rochester.
- Go to TILT's Wild College Party. Too many times to count.
- Have at least one breakdown during finals week.
- Build a snowman in front of the Field House.
- Draw a picture in the snow using food coloring.
- Lose your RIT ID at least once (it's a rite of passage!) I've lost mine at least three times.
- Attend the Park Ave Festival.
- Spend a day at the Ontario Beach Park. I think the Polar Plunge counts as spending a day there. Along with other events.
- Eat a meal at the Jines Cafe.
- Visit the Public Market.
- Take a tour of the Eastman House.
- Order a peanut butter smoothie from the Grind.
- Explore the abandoned train tracks in downtown Rochester.
- Participate in at least one sport during RIT/Gallaudet Sports Weekend. I'm counting this even though I have never participated in any of the sports, because I was on the planning committee two years straight, and I'm Chairperson this year (making a total of three years affiliated with Brickfest/Rockfest).
- Live off-campus for at least one year. THREE YEARS! WOOHOO!
- Sample a delicacy from Sugar Mountain Shoppe.
- Grab a late night breakfast from Jay's Diner.
- Live in Rochester's 19th Ward. It's scary at first, but by the end I didn't want to leave.
- Go rock climbing at the Red Barn
- Attend a Red Wings baseball game.
- Eat a delicious meal at Dino's BBQ.
- Compare Dino's BBQ with Sticky Lips. They both have their good and bad qualities.
- Visit MacGregor's. I've visited the one on Jefferson Rd and the one downtown.
- Take a day trip to Niagara Falls.
- Go bar hopping in the East End. This is practically a rite of passage. Hop on the Tiger East End Express (TE3) and go!

- Spend a day at Seabreeze.
- Gaze at the stars at the Planetarium.
- Visit the Susan B. Anthony House.
- Hike along the Genesee River High Falls.
- Watch a RIT sports game that is not hockey. I watched the RIT lacrosse team play in the NCAA tournament!
- Spend a day gazing at animals at the Seneca Park Zoo. I was also an intern, so I should get bonus points for this.
- Eat hot wings at Jeremiah's Tavern.
- Create "intelligent" graffiti in a CIAS bathroom.
- Join a club you never would have thought of joining. WOLK, Alpha Xi Delta (me, a sorority girl? Never! Until three years ago), and Brickfest/Rockfest.
- Kiss the tiger statue.
- Throw a frisbee through the infinity symbol in the Infinity Quad. It took several tries.
- Create a picture of you sitting on the "toilet bowl. I have since then destroyed any evidence of this picture.
- Go watch a production of Rocky Horror Picture Show by the Rochester Rocky Horror group.
- Participate in Mud Tug.
- Paint a mural in the tunnels under the residence halls.
- Paint the Greek rock and stand guard overnight.
- Watch Pumpkin Chunkin'!
- Graduate. I've done this once before. About to do it again.
Total: 80/101.
I hope to finish as many of these as possible before graduating!
Not bad! Surprised you didn't do #44
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I haven't had a chance to get around to it! Linda and I were planning to go last year but we had some exceptionally bad weather the day we were going to go.
