I, along with some of my sorority sisters and some people, have teamed up in a campaign for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. It is called the Million Mile Run, and the goal is for each team to run a hundred miles in the month of September, and raise money for pediatric cancer along the way.
(Psst... the Afleet Alex team regularly contributes to the ALSF! Afleet Alex has won race such as the Hopeful Stakes and the Sanford Stakes in 2004, plus the Arkansas Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes in 2005. He also came in third in the Kentucky Derby. He was voted Champion Three-Year Old Male and won NTRA's "Moment of the Year" for his near fall and win in the Preakness)
My team is the Eye Cancer Heroes, and so far we have logged nearly twenty miles. We rock! Our focus is on Retinoblastoma. The goal is for the accumulated miles from each team to reach one million miles. With the excitement and enthusiasm of all participants, I wouldn't be surprised if we did!
If you're interested in our team or want to donate, feel free to do so here!
Yesterday, I logged 2.68 miles for the team, and hope to log another three miles today. I'm now on Week 4 of my program, which calls for more running than walking.
(If anyone's curious, here is this week's program:
Last night for dinner, I had a garlic parmesan chicken salad. The chicken was marinated in some sort of garlic parmesan sauce, then the salad had sunflower seeds, asiago cheese, tomatoes, yellow peppers, and lettuce. I actually bought it from one of the dining halls on campus. The chicken was alright, but the cheese tasted like death. ugh...
